Urinary Incontinence

Pelvic floor dysfunction can result in difficulty controlling your bladder and bowels. Urinary urgency and stress incontinence are the two most common types.
Urge Incontinence is an involuntary loss of urine accompanied or preceded by a strong urge to urinate.
Stress Urinary Incontinence is an involuntary loss of urine during physical exertion (coughing, sneezing, lifting, jumping etc.) Mixed Urinary Incontinence is the combination of both stress and urge symptoms. Fecal incontinence is the inability to control bowel movements. It is a common problem resulting in the same debilitating effects of urinary incontinence. Pelvic floor muscle weakness or injury, bowel dysfunction, nerve damage or other tissue damage can result in fecal incontinence.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when the pelvic floor muscles and ligaments become weakened or stretched. The organs supported by those muscles and ligaments, the bladder, uterus, and the rectum may drop lower than their normal position in the pelvis, causing a bulge in the vagina. Prolapse can occur due to repetitive heavy lifting, with aging or years following childbirth. Symptoms of prolapse can include pressure in the pelvic region, bowel and bladder dysfunction, constipation, and lower back pain.
